Jan 19 - Melvyn Farrell Is New GBC Board Chairman
The Chief Minister has appointed Melvyn Farrell BEM RD to be the new Chairman of the Gibraltar Broadcasting Corporation.
The appointment was made after the Chief Minister consulted the Leader of the Opposition as required under the Broadcasting Act.
Mr Farrell takes over from Albert Mena, upon the latter's resignation from the Board of the GBC given his acceptance of the post of Financial Secretary.
The Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, said: "Finding someone to replace Albert Mena as chairman of GBC has not been easy, but I am satisfied that Melvyn is that person. He is highly respected for the excellent work he has done as a civil servant and as Clerk to the Parliament and as Returning Officer in a number of elections. I am sure he will do an excellent job and I am grateful to him and his family that he has agreed to come out of retirement to serve the Community further in this way."
