Dec 10 - Consumer Affairs Christmas Campaign Offers Advice on Consumer and Trader Rights
The Office for Consumer Affairs today launched their annual Christmas Campaign in an effort to ensure that both consumers and traders are aware of their rights and obligations. The campaign kicked off with a stall at the Piazza offering leaflets and advice to the general public.
Minister with responsibility for Consumer Affairs, Neil Costa visited the stall this morning. Stopping to talk to the press he noted that the department was an ever-evolving one. He explained that the campaign served to inform the public about the newest EU directive that refines obligations and ensures that information on products, refunds, pricing and deposits is made extremely clear to traders.
Audisa Rodriguez, Head of Consumer Affairs noted that the most common complaints the office receives are Christmas relate to confusion over deposits, put down on presents. She added that refunds and exchanges on unwanted presents was also a common issue of confusion.
The team also gave out advice on internet purchases, which are clearly becoming more popular, especially around this period. They urge buyers to familiarize themselves with e-commerce website policies and ensure that any sites they buy from are legitimate.
