Aug 28 - San Roque Fire Update
Last night’s fire was lit deliberately, claims reports in Spanish press. The blaze was finally extinguished this morning at approximately 10:30am, after it had destroyed much of the land around the San Roque Club estate, and the A-7 motorway, which was closed off at around 1am.
Staff at La Finca, a restaurant situated next the campsite in the area, near the northern entrance of Alcaidesa, today expressed how close the restaurant came to being engulfed by the flames. A statement found on the eatery’s Facebook page notes that once the blaze spread across the motorway they were told by the local Fire service, found close by, that they did not have enough fire appliances to attend to the scene at the restaurant.
Thankfully, an appliance from another nearby fire service managed to keep the fire under control. La Finca opened today, as normal.
Residents of the nearby area in Alcaidesa were evacuated to the beach at 5:30am, once the blaze had spread significantly into the urbanization. The once beautiful area surrounding the estate by the north entrance to Alcaidesa is now charred and baron.
