Aug 28 - Fire in Alcaidesa Results in Evacuation
28 August 2014
Last night at approximately 11pm, a fire started in the grassland behind San Roque urbanisation, La Alcaidesa. The blaze spread quickly, prompting a response from the Guardia Civil, Policia Local and the Fire Service.
Residents in the areas close to the Alcaidesa entrances were evacuated to the beach, when the emergency services could not take control of the fire, as it spread into the urbanisation. Many lost internet and phone service as the fire burned through the wires. This morning the blaze has been controlled, although thick layers of burnt shrubbery and ash lines the highway leading to La Linea and Los Barrios.
