Jun 10 - World Blood Donor Day 2014
On 14th June every year, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day. Access to safe and sufficient blood and blood products and the rational and safe use of blood transfusion still remain major challenges in many countries around the world. Blood is something we all expect to be there for us when we need it, yet only 4% of us give blood!
World Blood Donor Day raises awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products. WHO and partners throughout the world highlight how safe blood from voluntary donors can save people’s lives everywhere and commemorates voluntary unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood. Many people would not be alive today if it wasn't for the generosity of our donors.
The Gibraltar Blood Donation Service and Health Promotion team will be at Casemates on 13th June 2014 to commemorate World Blood Donor Day which falls on June 14th and to provide information and recruit new blood donors.
