Sep 27 - Spain Considers Adopting UK Time Zone
Member of the Spanish Parliament are considering switching time zones, to those of the UK and Portugal, in order to boost productivity within the country. A Parliamentary commission document on the matter insists that Spain has not been in the correct time zone for more than 71 years. The Commission claims that the country sleeps an hour less than is recommended by the World Health Organisation.
Spain’s current time zone is one hour ahead of GMT in the winter and two hours ahead during the Summer.
The BBC reports that the commission blames Spain’s late dinner and bed times on the current time zone, which was implemented in 1942 by General Franco, to follow Nazi Germany.
The documents adds that Spain’s timetable is determined more by the sun than by the clock.
