Sep 26 - Disabled Access Improvements for St. Bernard’s Hospital
The Ministry for Health and the Environment today announced a new set of installments to aid disabled individuals, at St. Bernard’s Hospital. These include a lift and ramp to allow wheelchair access to the garden, as well as a voice chip in hospital lifts, which will indicate what floors the lift is on, for those who may be visually impaired. Lifts will also indicate which direction the lift is moving in and when doors are opening and closing.
Commenting on the improvements, Health Minister Dr. John Cortes noted, ‘My meetings with different groups serve to identify where we can make improvements. While all are not immediately possible, I am very pleased that we are making progress and these two in particular will be of benefit to disabled users of the Hospital.
Social Services and Equality Minister, Samantha Sacramento added, ‘as a government we are taking steps to make Gibraltar more accessible. These latest steps are yet other examples of this initiative. As Minister for Equality I am delighted with the completion of this latest project, which makes our hospital more accessible to the whole community.’
