Sep 24 - Frontier Queue Camera Receives Record 340,000 Hits in August

24 September 2013

websiteThe frontier queue website has recorded a total of 340,000 hits during the month of August, according to the latest data that was made available to the Government on Sunday. This represents an average of 11,000 hits per day.

The majority of hits, 168,520, have come from Spain, followed by 127,616 hits from Gibraltar. This clearly reflects the high level of uncertainty generated among people on both sides of the border following the lengthy delays that have been experienced to travel into Spain or to exit from Spain.

There were 24,982 hits recorded from La Linea, 17,725 from Malaga, 15,477 from Jerez, 11,474 from El Puerto de Santa Maria, 9,193 from Algeciras and 7,012 from Seville. There were also 20,900 from Madrid and 7,012 from London.

The hits from London were among 29,143 from the United Kingdom as a whole. A number of hits were from further afield, including 2,788 from the United States, 2,195 from France, 1,240 from Germany, 819 from Canada, 670 from Portugal and 540 from Switzerland.

Commenting on the matter, Deputy Chief Minister Dr. John Cortes noted, ‘the Government has examined in detail the proposals it has received to improve the system by adding other functions. This includes showing the incoming queue as well as increasing the scope and the speed of data collection options. It is clear that www.frontierqueue.gi has proved a useful tool for the general public and for the media in view of the continuing delays at the border generated by the Spanish authorities in both directions.’
