Jul 23 - The Royal Birth
Yesterday afternoon at 4:24pm, Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a son weighing 8lbs 6oz. The baby I third in line of succession and will be formally known as His Royal Highness Prince of Cambridge.
The baby’s name has yet to be announced. The Duchess and the baby remained at St. Mary’s Hospital overnight.
In celebration of the birth, His Excellency the Governor of Gibraltar has announced that a 21 gun salute will be fired by the Royal Gibraltar Regiment this afternoon. The Reviewing officer is set to be the Chief Minister's wife, Justine Picardo.
The Governor and Lady Johns offered their warmest congratulations to Their Royal Highnesses on the birth of their son. Sir Adrian Johns added, ‘we send our best wishes as they embark on their new life together as a family.’
With permission of the Royal Household, a Notice of Birth has been attached to the front gate of The Convent.
Prime Minister David Cameron noted that the birth was ‘wonderful news.’ He added, ‘It is an important moment in the life of our nation, and I suppose above all it is a wonderful moment for a warm and loving couple who have got a brand new baby boy.’
