Jul 11 - Momy’s Biography Launched Later This Month
A book on the life of Momy Levy will be launched later this month at the Convent. Man on the Rock: Mayor Solomon Levy and the Jews of Gibraltar is written by prolific biographer Michael Freedland and is published by Vallentine Mitchell Books. Mr Freedland is a journalist, broadcaster and author of more than 40 books. He writes regularly for The Times and The Guardian, in numerous overseas publications and he broadcasts on the BBC. Among his biographies so far are works on Leonard Bernstein, Fred Astaire and Al Jolson.
The book follows Momy from his private school at Carmel College to his time in the Royal Gibraltar Regiment and his appointment as Gibraltar’s first civic Mayor. It also examines Momy’s attachement to the Queen, his relationship with representatives of other faiths and the unique Jewish community in Gibraltar.
The book will be on sale locally and online within the next few weeks. YGTV will be posting more updates in the run up to the launch.
