Marking the 70th anniversary of General Sikorski’s death in Gibraltar, in 1943, a series of events were hosted in Gibraltar today. Polish Prime Minister General Sikorski’s death came about as a result of the joint Nazi Germany and Soviet Invasion of Poland.

The General and his entourage were on their way to fight in Northern Africa when the accident occurred. Representing Poland at a commemorative service hosted at the site of the new memorial, were Ministers for War Veterans and the Council for the Protection of Struggle and Martyrdom Sites, Field Bishop of the Polish Army, Commander of the Warsaw Garrison and the Consul General of the Republic of Poland in London. Speaking at the event, Governor Sir Adrian Johns commemorated General Sikorski’s honour and bravery.

The delegation were also invited to a formal lunch at the Caleta Palace Hotel and a reception, to be hosted by the Chief Minister this evening, at the Wessex Lounge.
