The Gibraltar Port Authority and the Gibraltar Tourist Board are working together to demarcate Gibraltar’s beaches with a new set of buoys. These buoys are being positioned approximately 200m from the shoreline of all Gibraltar’s eastern and western beaches. Large yellow buoys are located at approximately 100m intervals with a string of smaller yellow buoys between them. Green channel buoys also mark the boat channels.

These buoys are different to what has been the normal deployment of single buoys in the past with the aim of providing a safer area for swimmers, as the whole length of the beach is spanned with smaller buoys, thus creating a physical barrier that will warn boat users of the area that they will not be allowed to transgress.

Works started last Friday 28th June 2013 with all the western beaches being completed over the weekend. Works will continue on the eastern side beaches once all the necessary equipment has been received and weather conditions moderate to allow the deployment.
