Jul 04 POWER OUTAGE
The Gibraltar Electricity Authority would like to apologise for any inconvenience to the public on account of the power outage that is on-going this Thursday 4th July 2013 affecting most districts. The outage occurred at approximately 0835hrs.
At present there are still a number of areas in central town and parts of the south district without power.
At this moment all our investigations are indicating towards a major failure of the Orange Bastion High Voltage Distribution Centre. This ageing distribution centre is one of three distribution hubs in Gibraltar – it supplies the areas mentioned namely central town and parts of the south district.
All our generation assets are fully available and ready to supply power to the whole of Gibraltar once the network fault is fully isolated. Generating capacity is not an issue, as it has not been since the Government invested in the turbines located at the North Mole. The suspected failure at Orange Bastion is as a result of lack of investment during the past 16 years under the last administration.
All GEA Network engineers and resources are deployed and working to restore supplies as quickly and safely as possible.
