July 03 - Student Summer Placements
The Government is pleased to announce that, to date, a record total of 340 summer job placements in the public sector have been offered to university students who are back in Gibraltar for their summer holidays. 226 students started work on 1st July with the remaining 114 scheduled to commence at later dates, as requested by the individual students themselves.
The scheme, which remains open for receipt of applications throughout the summer months, is attractive, not only because it enables students to earn some money, but also because it affords them the opportunity to gain valuable experience into the workings of the public sector. Furthermore, students have been placed in up to 50 different Government departments, agencies, authorities and government-owned companies in areas and activities, mostly matching their respective fields of study.
‘We are pleased to assist the students in this way,’ said Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Joseph Garcia. ‘They should gain a better understanding of the way that the Government operates and we hope that it provides them with greater practical experience with which to underpin their academic studies.’
