Jul 1 - Gettysburg Battle Anniversary Marked with Model Soldier Exhibition
Marking the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, members of the Gibraltar Model Soldiers Society, Andrew Rowbottom, Anthony Yome and Hector Zammit today unveiled a small-scale depiction of the battle, to be displayed at the Coach Park Terminal for the next week.
The battle was held between 1st and 4th July in 1863, as part of the American Civil War. The battle resulted in a Confederate retreat. The battle saw between 46,000 and 51,000 casualties and acted as a turning point for the North, as the South lost both Militarily and Politically.
The exhibition was launched by Culture and Heritage Minister, Steven Linares and displayed a spectrum of tireless work by Mr Zammit, Mr. Rowbottom and Mr. Yome, with over 2400 hand built, and hand painted models on display.
Speaking to YGTV, the three men noted that the whole process had taken almost two years and required a huge deal of research. The men collated information from the ‘Gettysburg Companion’, as well as a number of films, the scene was modelled exactly on what was portrayed within these detailed accounts of the battle.
In September, the group has been asked to display the exhibition once again, in the Cruise Terminal.
