June 04 - Sunborn Recruitment Event Sees Five Hour Queue
Sunborn Gibraltar’s Recruitment Open Day last Thursday exceeded organisers’ expectations with candidates queuing the length of Ocean Village Marina Promenade. Many applications were received from local residents for the 200 permanent roles onboard the world’s five star yacht hotel.
Commenting on the matter, Brian Stevendale, CEO for Sunborn Gibraltar, said, ‘we are delighted that so many Gibraltarians applied to the wide variety of management, administration, sales, hospitality, housekeeping and maintenance roles we have available with Sunborn Gibraltar. The enthusiasm and talent was impressive, particularly amongst young energetic locals who are excited at the prospect of becoming trainee managers in a five star environment, learning skills that would normally have to be acquired overseas.’
With interested parties queuing solidly from 2pm to 7pm, the success of the Sunborn Gibraltar Recruitment Open Day gives some indication of the waves this unique five star brand and concept is already making – even before the yacht hotel has arrived. News had travelled, despite Sunborn Gibraltar not having alerted Spanish media to the vacancies, either in advertising or editorial. Testament to this was the number of Spain-based applicants who attended on Thursday.
Brian finished, ‘Sunborn will of course now proceed to provide vacancy lists to the Employment and Training Board (ETB) and consider candidates provided by them, alongside applications already received from Gibraltarians and other long-term residents who may not be registered as unemployed. Some staffing requirements will be more immediate, involved in the commissioning process when Sunborn Gibraltar arrives in a fortnight, and others in place for her public launch in the second half of 2013. As far as possible, all necessary training will take place here in Gibraltar.’
