May 31 - Jubilee Hope Sets Sail for UK
Vine Trust Gibraltar has today announced that Medical Ship, Jubilee Hope, is leaving Gibraltar bound for the UK. The former Royal Navy tender has been converted into a floating hospital here in Gib Dock and is heading back to the UK for a final fit of equipment before setting off for it's new home on Lake Victoria in Tanzania. Once on the Lake, it will benefit over one million people over the next 20 years, who previously would not receive medical treatment, and will offer GP, Maternity, Optical and Dental services as well as a pharmacy.
Before leaving the UK, Jubilee Hope will be making a tour of the British Isles calling in at ports along the way in a bid to raise money and awareness for the Tanzania project. The Vessel is scheduled for delivery to Mombassa, Kenya for overland transportation to Lake Victoria later this year.
There are over 150 island communities on Lake Victoria, numbering some 450,000 people in the Tanzanian sector alone, with little or no access to a meaningful health service. Through partnerships with local health professionals and other NGO's this project aims to provide a quarterly visiting Primary Care service to 100,000 patients per year.
Jubilee Hope is due to leave Ocean Village Marina on Friday 31st May.
