This morning, Dr. John Cortes launched environment website Thinking Green.gov.gi. The idea for the website was coined during last October’s ‘Thinking Green Seminar’ that saw high profile activists former president Al Gore and Juan Verde speak on issues relating to Global Warming. The webpage is being managed and updated by the Government’s Department for the Environment and aims to engage the public on environmental matters within Gibraltar, in a less official, and more interactive manner, than the Department’s official website.

ThinkingGreen.gov.gi encourages environmental awareness and covers all current news regarding environmental affairs, including recycling, air quality in Gibraltar, biodiversity and other interesting and related articles within the local press. It will also link to the Thinking Green twitter feed.

When quizzed on why the Department launched a separate website to their official one, Dr. Cortes noted that the Thinking Green page puts across environmental matters in a more casual and less official manner than the Department’s website, which individuals are less inclined to read. The Department is also working with the Education Department in order to make the website interactive for children.
