Apr 12 - Star Football Player Presented with Framed Strip
Commanding Officer Lt Col Colin Risso presented a framed Army football strip to LCpl Bruce-smith as a thank you from the Regiment for representing the Army at Football in the Under 23’s.
LCpl Bruce-smith, now 23, has been in the RG for six years and has been representing the Army Under 23’s since 2009. He is on his final season of this age category before hopefully continuing onto the Army Senior Team.
Reflecting back on his time with the Army Under 23’s he said, ‘I have had the privilege of playing against some professional teams such as Reading FC, AFC Wimbledon, Aldershot Town and Brussia Monchengladbach who we played when we toured Germany.
2012 proved to be the winning year for the Army Under 23’s team and LCpl Bruce-smith scored the first goal of the services opening game against the Royal Navy which the Army won 2-1, they then went on to beat the RAF 2-1 to become the Inter-Service Champions 2012.
The framed strip is the one he wore at the winning RAF match last year and has his name inscribed on the back, it will hang in the gym at the request of LCpl Bruce-smith until he leaves the military to help inspire others to get involved in Army football.
