The Government of Gibraltar notes the video circulating on social media showing a brutal attack on a young person. 

A statement from the Government follows below:

Gibraltar offers young people more opportunities than any other European society. There is every reason for young people to aspire to succeed. There is no reason for young people to resort to violence in any circumstances. 

Violence has no place in our society between citizens of any age nor in any circumstances. The Royal Gibraltar Police has already announced that it has made arrests arising from that video.  

The Government will continue to work with youth services to reach out to young people who need help in their everyday lives. 

Gibraltar has historically been a safe and secure environment for citizens of all ages and we must preserve that special characteristic of our very precious community by doing everything we all can to ensure we remain a peaceful, law abiding community where everyone is and feels safe and secure. 

The Government echoes the call from the RGP that the video should not be further circulated, especially given the fact that arrests have already been made and due process must be followed in keeping with the rule of law.
