May 31 - Chief Minister Sends Condolence Letter Following Death Of Guardia Civil Officer
The Chief Minister has sent a letter to Sr D Fernando Grande-Marlaska Gómez, Spanish Minister of the Interior - Algeciras, following the recent death of an officer of the Guardia Civil.
The Chief Minister's letter stated: "Just a few words to convey to you my sincerest condolences, as well as those of the people and Government of Gibraltar, following the fatal accident that just this afternoon has taken the life of a young officer of the Guardia Civil from Algeciras in the execution of his duties. As you are well aware, reports speak of the officer appearing to be in pursuit an individual suspected of illicit activity, possibly related to the drugs trade. It is very sad that another life has been lost to this war that we are all united in fighting.
"I have conveyed our deepest sympathy to the Mayor of Algeciras and asked him to transmit the feelings of the people of Gibraltar to the family of the deceased. "
