Oct 30 - New Gibraltar Port Authority Recruit Qualifies As A VTS Operator
The Gibraltar Port Authority has announced that its latest recruit has successfully qualified as a VTS Operator following an extensive period of training in the UK.
Mark Olivero was appointed as a trainee VTS Operator in August and after a short period of preparatory study attended the South Shields Marine School in September for a further seven-week period which provided his VTS, VHF radio and radar training before his final assessment by the college.
Mark is now a fully qualified VTS Operator and joins his other colleagues in the VTS Centre maintaining the 24-hour coverage of BGTW ensuring the navigational safety of vessel movements in and around the coast of Gibraltar.
Manuel Tirado, CEO and Captain of the Port (Acting) said he was delighted that Mark has completed his training successfully and takes pleasure in welcoming him to the team.
