03 October 2013
Fabian Picardo, the Chief Minister, has written personally to all Barclays’ staff members following yesterday’s announcement that the bank would be closing down its retail operations with the loss of over 90 jobs.
Mr Picardo says his Government supports all Barclays’ employees at this “difficult time” and promises to make Government personnel available to assist those affected with finding alternative employment.
The letter also says that the Government is “working hard to seek new retail banking options for our community” which might result in “new job opportunities.”
