Mar 09 - APPG For Gibraltar Welcomes Package Of Measures
The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Gibraltar says it welcomes the package of measures that was agreed at the Joint Ministerial Council (JMC) yesterday.
The measures include guarantees that Gibraltar financial services firms will have continued access to UK markets until 2020, after which both the UK Government and the Government of Gibraltar will work together to design a future framework based on a shared, high standard of regulation, and enforcement of this regulation, underpinned by modern arrangements for information-sharing, transparency and regulatory cooperation.
The JMC’s agreement also includes guarantees around continued reciprocal rights for Gibraltar and UK citizens on accessing key services like healthcare and education.
Members of the APPG for Gibraltar have been pressing UK Government Ministers to agree to such a deal in both Houses of Parliament during the course of debates concerning Brexit legislation.
Bob Neill MP, Chair of the APPG for Gibraltar, (pictured) said:
“This is a really important step to reinforce Britain’s commitment to stand 100 per cent behind the people of Gibraltar during and after Brexit and an important practical boost to continued confidence in the Rock’s thriving economy. It also underwrites our shared British identity by continuing the arrangements for our citizens to use key personal services in each other’s country - it’s what you do when you are part of the same family. The agreement is a further clear signal that Gibraltar’s Britishness is not ‘up for grabs’.”
