Jan 31 - Gibraltar Continues Lobbying Meetings In Brussels
The Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia, who remains in Brussels, has continued with a busy schedule of meetings today.
These contacts with members of the EU institutions are designed to put across the Gibraltar point of view on a number of issues including the decision taken in the United Kingdom to leave the European Union. There continues to be considerable interest in Gibraltar and in the Brexit process.
It is well known that the position of the EU is that no negotiations can commence until the Article 50 notice has been served. However, the Government says it is nonetheless important, from an informational point of view, to explain the Rock’s position to as many relevant parties as possible in the time available.
The Deputy Chief Minister has made the point once again that a sensible, orderly and well-managed Brexit is the best interests of Gibraltar and Spain, given the strong economic links between both sides of the frontier.
"It is important that sight is not lost of the human dimension and the economic reality once the negotiations commence," said Dr Garcia.
Dr Garcia also took the opportunity to renew contact with a number of Members of the European Parliament including South West and Gibraltar MEP Claire Moody (pictured).
The Deputy Chief Minister, who is the Minister for Europe and for work related to Exiting the European Union, is accompanied by the Attorney General Michael Llamas, Principal Secretary Caine Sanchez and Legal Officer Daniel D'Amato from Gibraltar House in Brussels.
