May 05 - Special Olympics Football Team To Participate In Liverpool Tournament
The Special Olympics Gibraltar Football Team have been invited to participate in the Gareth Cowin Memorial Trophy to be held in Liverpool. This tournament has been organised by the SO Isle of Man and Isle of Man FA club. The teams participating are: Everton, Liverpool, Manchester City 1, Manchester City 2, Pontefract, Bradford, Isle of Man and Gibraltar.
The tournament will be played at Goals Liverpool North on Saturday 10th May from 1.00p.m to 5.00p.m.
Gareth Cowin sadly passed away in South Korea in the World Winter games 2013. Every year he looked forward to participating in SOG National Games where he competed in 5-a-side football. Gibraltar’s own athletes who suffered the loss with the IoM team are very excited that this competition has been organised and is giving everyone a chance to honour his memory.
Whoever wins this tournament will host it in their own country or city next year.The team leaves on Friday 9th May on Monarch flight to Manchester.The team consists of HOD Annie Risso, Head Coach Brian Fernandez, Asst. Coach James Danino and the following footballers: Sam Hook, Jansen Gilbert, Marvin Zammitt, Lee Guerreiro, Samuel F. Santos, Nolan Baglietto, Francis Avellano and Giovanni Yeo.
The team will return to Gibraltar on Monday 12th May.
